STEP 6: English Binder and Classroom Supplies
Students are expected to bring the following to class every day:
Required
English Binder: Though this is a mostly paperless course whose assignments will be submitted digitally, students must create and keep a notebook (ideally, a 1½ in. binder) specifically for this English class. The notebook will be used for the storage of handouts and reference materials, loose-leaf notebook paper, and returned assignments. A large volume of packets will be distributed at the beginning of the semester that will be placed in specific sections and in a specific order so they can be easily accessed during class and at home. You will be expected to take notes in class frequently and to keep these notes in your English notebook, which will be of particular value in preparing for the semester final exam. Taking notes on a laptop or mobile device during class is absolutely acceptable as long as these technologies are being used exclusively for the academic task of the moment. These notes will often be used for open-note assessments.
Required
- A binder (ideally 1½ in.) with all worksheets and handouts kept during the semester (see Class Notebook section below for divider tabs)
- One set of five (5) ring binder tabs or indexes
- Three-hole punched lined paper for notetaking and writing assessments
- A blue or black ink pen and a pencil
- The assigned literature that we are reading at the time
- Laptop or mobile device (iOS recommended) — Please see me immediately if you currently don’t have access to one of these personal technologies at school and/or at home so I can help resolve the matter.
- Post-it notes or flags for marking texts (esp. school-issued textbooks)
- Highlighters and/or colored pens for annotating handouts, notes, and private copies of texts
- Markers, colored pencils, scissors, and other art supplies
